DRIFT cameras rant :(
« on: August 02, 2017, 03:48:06 PM »
Well I have finally decided to dump Drift as one of my preferred sources for camera kit.

I mailed their customer services (no choice as they dont have a phone number??) regarding my drift ghost-s which died due to minor water ingress. My email was an enquiry to see if they camera could be repaired rather than buying a new unit. At no time during the email did I ask for a warranty replacement or repair and also stated I had left the camera for 6 months in a dry, warm environment before trying a power source with it.
The first paragraph was basically stating statistics around the waterproof properties of the camera and then saying I cant claim on warranty???
The guy then went on to suggest I leave it OVERNIGHT in a warm dry place??
It ended with an offer to buy a new camera from them at 20% discount.

So basically they either didn`t read my mail properly or chose to ignore it!

This is the second time I`ve had dealings with their CS and also the second time Im getting the feeling they are a "distribution-franchise" only with ZERO ability to offer any technical solutions to problems other than quoting manuals and policies.

For this reason I`m going to be using SJ cameras from now on as the only negative I have to say about SJ is that they are the same shape and dimensions as go pro so therefore look a bit stupid sticking out the side of my helmet.

Sorry to hear about this problem. I've been generally happy with my Ghost, but I haven't had the problems you did. I've heard both good and bad things about their CS.

I wrote to them once complaining over the fact that the Drift Camera Forum that once existed had, over time, been saturated and overrun with hacked porn post. The moderators just ignored, or gave up on the site until it was taken down. Though the site wasn't affiliated with Drift, they weren't really concerned, even though it was promoting their product on a positive level. For a business fighting for a market share against the likes of GoPro it seemed odd that they weren't adding any support toward this independent site that was promoting their product.

Their loss.

That kind of fits with the vibe that I get from them.
The first time I contacted them was to ask for a microphone adaptor as I lost mine. They couldnt even supply me with one and linked me to an electronics site. The part they suggested was a 1.5m long adaptor lead??

Considering the success of go pro you would think that they would be firmly on the "catch-up" attitude but it would seem that their ethos is simply. If you want to buy one GREAT, if you dont or if you want CS then jog-on!

I`m going to be doing a drift rant VLOG once I get all my facts together. I do still have the 20% discount code they gave me though which is tempting regardless of their CS haha

I got a new camera about a week ago (I'll be dropping a vlog post on it soon). I'd like to stay with Drift, but only because I like their practical design over a GoPro. It looks like the Ghost-S has been discontinued in favor of the Drift 4-K.

If I have the money I'd like to try the 4-K, but that may not be until next year. I hope things do work out with Drift's CS to iron out your problem.

Nope, I`ve ditched them as a brand and using SJ now. There are always going to be pos and negs with every brand but for the money, I cant see past SJ now :)

Sounds good. I hope things work out with the new camera(s). So far I haven't run into any problems with my Ghost, and I just found a way to intermix the mounting accessories with the Tec. Bean camera I purchased a few weeks ago.
